Wine & Blue X Turquoise Horizon

I'm very excited to present my collaboration with my friend Christi from Turquoise Horizon jewelry. She makes beautiful AND top quality jewelry, inspired by boho, minimalist and geometric trends. She puts a ton of effort in finding the most interesting stones and minerals for our jewelry, and I was lucky enough to model her latest collection:

The jewelry is so well made and even more beautiful in person. It is also very sturdy and the prices are super reasonable. They are also holding a holiday sale, check out their store! All jewelry by Sea Kae Designs (TurquoiseHorizon). Hat: Anthropologie (old, similar here), Pants: American Apparel, Shirt: Target, Faux Fur Vest: Forever21 (old, similar here).

How to Dye Leather Boots: Super Simple DIY

Hello! Things have been a bit crazy and I've been meaning to undertake this project since the middle of summer. It's only when boot season came around that I really felt the urgency to finally commit: I was going to dye my beloved 2-tone Steve Madden boots black. I grew tired of the 2-tone: I thought I was real smart when, instead of choosing between black and brown, 3 years ago, I chose both. But in the meantime, I acquired a pair of brown riding boots AND a pair of tan riding boots, so these guys became irrelevant. Until a *need* for black riding boots emerged. Dying genuine leather boots is extremely simple and if you have been thinking about it, don't hesitate. It's almost foolproof!

What you need:

- Sponges
- Wool daubers
- Leather Dye (oil-based)
- Acrylic Resolene
- Deglazer

Oh and I strongly recommend:

- A pair of gloves (either rubber gloves or latex gloves)
- Newspaper (I didn't have any, I used a puppy pad since my "puppy" is 65 pounds... and obviously potty-trained by now! These are super absorbent!)
- A cotton cloth
- Paper towels (just in case)
- A disposable plastic container

Do not wear nice clothes. The oil dye is extremely runny! I also recommend doing this outside if it isn't too cold, the smell is pretty strong.

Steps (once you've placed your boots on newspaper):

1. Use a cotton cloth with some deglazer. Remove the finish from the leather you want to dye by rubbing it with deglazer. This step wasn't very long for me since I only wanted to dye the top part of the boot.

2. Pour some of your oil dye in a plastic (disposable) container.  Be careful! (I was not).

 3. Dip a wool dauber in the dye. Soak it up entirely and rub it on the leather, as if it were a paintbrush. Cover the surface entirely. Do not forget seams and little corners. I also made sure I covered the edge of the leather, and I also went under the strap. You can press harder over the seam.

4. Let the dye dry for about 30 minutes. This is what it looked like after one coat.

5. Add another coat of dye if needed (in my case, it was: I could still see the brown leather underneath).
6. Let dry for another 30 minutes or so.
7. Use a sponge to apply a very thin coat of resolene in circular movements. If it looks too white, it means you are using too much. You can easily rub off the excess with a paper towel. If like me you are only dyeing a part of your boot, still apply resolene to the entire boot for an even finish.
8. Let dry, and you are done!

This is the result, after a couple wears! Awesome!

I ordered my products online at Tandy Leather, a Denver-based leather craft shop. It was cheap and easy, I definitely recommend!

Do you have any leather goods you want to dye? Have you ever dyed leather? Suede? Clothing? How did you do it?

Wedding Pics: Getting Hitched in Greece

James and I met while on a volunteering trip in Greece four years ago, so it just made sense that we would get married there. Especially since he has family in Greece and his parents own a house on the island of Aegina: a perfect setting for the reception. We went for a low-key setting, and the whole day and evening exceeded my expectations. I'm not surprised though: every time I go to Greece, I am overwhelmed by the beauty of the landscapes. This, paired with most of our friends and family, coming from literally all over the world, made for a magical day that I will remember forever. Here are a few pictures of my big day, all by Dimitris Vlaikos.

BHLDN (Anthropologie's bridal store) is hands down my favorite bridal boutique. I was lucky enough to be able to try on some of their dresses at the trunk show they hosted in Nashville in February, since they don't have a whole lot of locations. Don't be afraid to order online though: they have great customer service and enough reviews to figure out your size. Anyways, you will probably end up altering your dress, whether you buy it in store or online (though I didn't even have to have mine altered!). Their prices are reasonable and I love the style of their dresses (I'm not so much into big ballgowns and poofy dresses).

Wedding gown: BHLDN, Sash BHLDN (sold out), Headband Ivory and Lace Bridal, Veil Jackson Bridal Veils, shoes: Michael Kors (sold out in silver) and Dolce Vita. Bridesmaids dresses: mismatched, their own. If you have any questions about any of the bridal decor or outfits, don't hesitate to contact me.

Red Rider

Last weekend I wanted to test my new Keds from the Fall '14 collection, so I took them on a bike ride. They are super comfortable and complement well a nautical/sporty outfit. I think they are a perfect match with this striped romper, which is a no-brainer for any summer weekend, especially paired with a denim jacket. It's the perfect outfit for any park activity.

The New Braiding Handbook by Abby Smith: Fun Braids for Dummies

A couple months ago, I received this wonderful book by Abby Smith (from Twist me Pretty). You've probably seen her before, she is all over Pinterest and always sporting the prettiest, most intricate blonde braids you've ever seen.

I would say that I have basic braiding skills, which means I can do regular braids pretty quickly, my French braids look okay and my Fishtail braids are messy but wearable. I have read the whole book, and let me say she is a true artist. Some of the braids, even with the book, I could never dream of achieving. She says it herself though: it takes a lot of practice. Even with step-by-step instructions, some of the braids cannot be achieved on the first try. My main limitation is that my arms and shoulders get tired quickly, so I lose patience and become sloppy. The results are not always polished like hers.

In the book, each hairstyle comes with step-by-step instructions with photos. Like college classes, some hairstyles have prerequisites: one cannot hope to achieve a fishtail bun without mastering the fishtail braid! This book has been helpful in the way that it made me realize that some hairstyles, like milkmaid braids, are way easier than they seem! Here is my version:

Not so bad, right? And I've got medium-length hair. I'm not particularly meticulous in the way I do my hair, so I think that with this book and practice, there is hope for the braid-challenged gals out there. Be on the lookout for new braided looks on the blog in the future! This books has definitely helped me discover new styles I didn't even know existed. My only complaint is that the step-by-step explanations are not directly under the pictures, which sometimes makes it hard for a visual person like me. Other than that, the instructions are clear and the pics, beautiful and inspiring!

The book is available on Amazon and at Urban Outfitters.

Do you style your hair in a braid often? What is the best way to learn for you? Videos? Books? Tutorials? With a friend? What's your favorite braid? I want to know!

Simply Striped

Over the last year, I've been seeing a ton of bloggers wearing spaghetti-straps silk camisoles. I remember looking at this magnificient photo of the beautiful Gary Pepper last fall and thinking "wow, I wish I could wear that kind of strappy, feminine top...". I thought it was the perfect feminine top to wear with boyfriend jeans or shorts.

Since I'm not exactly petite like Gary Pepper, it took me a good six months before I even tried one on. I didn't think it would look good on me, since my shoulders are on the broader side. I was wrong! After purchasing one of these, I got addicted. I now own four! They are extremely comfortable, allow for tanning if you go on a walk AND display the tan you already have pretty nicely. This striped little number is my favorite, and I was lucky to snag it on sale at J.Crew. It pairs so nicely with my Gap boyfriend shorts!

What do you think? Do you think spaghetti straps are for everyone, or should be reserved to narrow- shouldered gals? Do you like to pair a more feminine top with a masculine bottom?
